Githaka means a densely forested area, land or earth. It is derived from the word ũthaka which means beautiful with the prefix gĩ- amplifying the beauty tO depict something extremely beautiful or a big beautiful thing. kia is conjunction of in kikuyu and ugi is the kikuyu word for knowledge. In this context, the name and in deed the mission of the website is to create a big and beautiful Library or simply put a land of knowledge. This phrase translates to “the forest of knowledge/wisdom.” We are a digital heritage library dedicated to preserving and exploring the rich culture, history, and language of the Agĩkũyũ people.
Our mission is to create the most comprehensive chronological archive, from the origins of Gĩkũyũ and Mũmbi to the modern day. This is a community project, built on shared stories and wisdom.
